Recently, Mathplane has been experiencing slow page loads.
Sorry for the delays. We are working on the traffic and server issues.
Thank you for your patience and persistence!
The tutorial continues to explore features of the Ti nspire cx cas graphing calculator. The tasks below will utilize different menus, operations, and settings.
11) Factorials -- Probability Menu
Task: Find 7!
"Home" (On)
"A Calculate" (opens workspace)
7
"menu"
5: Probability
(press 5, or move the cursor down and press enter)
1: Factorial (!)
(press 1, or press enter to execute the highlighted command)
The workspace displays 7!
"enter"
The output: 5040
12) Probability and Counting Principles
Tasks: Answer the following: How many ways can win, place, and show occur in a 9 horse race? (permutation) How many ways can you pick the 3 winners in any order (combination)?
Formulas:
nPr = n!/(n - r)!
nCr = n!/r!(n - r)!
Go to the workspace
"menu"
5: Probability
2: Permutations
The workspace displays nPr(|)
Input 9 , 3 ("enter")
(the comma is at the bottom left corner)
The output: 504
Next,
"menu"
5: Probability
3: Combinations
The workspace displays nCr(|)
Input 9 , 3 ("enter")
(don't forget the comma!)
The output: 84
13) Calculus -- Integrals
Tasks: Find the definite integral of 4x^2 evaluated from 2 to 4.
Go to the workspace
Method 1:
"menu"
4: Calculus
3: Integral
(Fill in the boxes)
2 in the lower left box (move cursor)
4 in the upper left box (move cursor)
4 x ^ 2 in the middle box (move cursor)
x in the right box
"enter"
The output: 224/3
"ctrl" "enter"
The output: 74.6667
Method 2:
Press "template" key (next to the 9)
select "integral template"
Fill in boxes "enter"
**Note: to evaluate an indefinite integral, the left boxes remain empty
14) Summation -- Sigma Notation
Task: find the sum of 2c for c = 2 to 5
"menu"
4: Calculus
5: Sum
lower left box: c
lower right box: 2
upper box: 5
right box: 2c (or, 2 x c)
"enter"
The output: 28
15) Finding Limits -- Calculus Menu
Task: find the following limit
Home (On)
"Menu"
4: Calculus
4: Limit
Then, input values.
left box: x (move cursor to next box)
"ctrl" "catalog/book"
select the infinity symbol "enter"
(use arrows on mousepad to move cursor to main box inside parentheses)
( 4 x ^ 2 + 1 )
division symbol
( 2 x ^ 2 - 3 )
"enter"
The output: 2
Reminders:
using parentheses guarantee the calculations are done in the order you intended.
Use the minus sign - to subtract, rather than the negative sign (-).
You may use the "template key" to access the limits function.
